Doi Pui Luang trekking Conquer the Heights of Mae Hong Son

Trek Doi Pui Luang’s jungles, uncover plane wrecks, and dive into Karen culture in Baan Huai Hee.

For those who crave adventure, Doi Pui Luang trekking is an adrenaline-packed journey through the rugged landscapes of Mae Hong Son Province. This trek is not just about the climb—it’s about immersing yourself in a world untouched by modern civilization. Starting from Ban Huay Hee, a Karen village deep in the mountains, this hike offers breathtaking panoramic views, diverse ecosystems, and an intense yet rewarding physical challenge.

At an altitude of 1,722 meters, Doi Pui Luang stands as one of the most stunning peaks in the region. The Mae Hong Son jungle trek takes hikers through dense conservation forests, dry evergreen zones, and steep inclines that demand both strength and perseverance. The journey begins with a 2 to 2.5-hour uphill ascent through terrain that was once part of a rotational farming system. If you’re trekking between March and April, you’ll witness a rare spectacle—wild orchids blooming along the trail.

After reaching the summit, where a packed lunch is served, the descent begins, covering about 2.5 to 3 hours through varying landscapes. One of the highlights is passing a wild orchid conservation area and a site where local villagers discovered an aircraft wreckage decades ago. Returning to Ban Huay Hee, visitors will have the opportunity to interact with Karen families and learn about their intricate weaving traditions, some of which use natural dyeing techniques. The adventure concludes with a drive back to Mae Hong Son Town.
